Social Media is a double edged sword, it can bring you friends plus the popularity you need to succeed in the music industry but if you are under 18 and female there is a danger of Social Media bring questionable people into your life, I have noticed that most men who are part of young ladies fan base talk about how beautiful or cute the person they follow are and hardly or never comment on what the young ladies have a fan page for and that is their music.
I see comments like ‘I Love You’ and ‘You’re Beautiful’, ‘Cute’, ‘I like your pictures’, ‘Remember that I loved you before I saw your pictures’ everyday and I even see ❤ in comments, Gentlemen we have no right to post such messages, teen boys the performers age sure can, other girls can, women can but not men, our job is to back the music of the performers and not get into anything personal, the ladies looks and the way they dress is absolutely out of bounds, your words could be forcing them out of music because who in their right mind would enjoy seeing thirty somethings saying ‘I Love You’ to a 15 year old who is not their relative or close similar aged friend, there is many scared people out there and the numbers of those getting uncomfortable are growing.
YMA’s group and page does not allow comments like the ones above, it is our belief and our law that men should not comment like what is mentioned above and the same applies if older women write similar things to young performers too, it is not acceptable and we’ve had it, we are no longer afraid of chastising anyone we see anywhere make any inappropriate comments, people should watch what they say and watch how they act, I can guarantee that if you say ‘I Love You’ to a young performer in public you’d probably be in a padded cell by the end of this sentence so act how you’d behave in public.
Lastly, I hope that all young performers watch their comment areas closely, encourage people to focus on the music and not your looks and warn people if they are getting a little on the creepy side and if they don’t behave do not hesitate to boot them, you are all too young to be worried about questionable people and should be instead enjoying everything that youth brings which is high energy, sometimes crazy adventures, high creativity and more.
