While scrolling through Facebook while waiting for some news to come through and keep me busy I noticed the following post by Sean Emmett.

“Boy with face piercing makes a basic cover on Facebook, gets 800 likes.
Real musicians sharing a new single, no one interested.”

It’s true, the strangest things can be hits while good things can be misses, hundreds of thousands of people can like one of those pictures saying a million likes would get a kid a transplant which would never happen because nobody would determine a medical situation over a amount of likes etc people but way fewer people will like somebody with an image or video of their livelihood and in our area of expertise that’s music, we seem to let the ridiculous things get a following we let people become stars because of an R rated video, we laugh at people trying to jump over small poles and instead get it in the privates but then again a little of seeing that each day is good for the soul, there are novelty songs, shows about housewives who just go on about their clothes, jewels and the rest while getting a weekly article in news.com.au and much more so while our attention is diverted the good stuff gets ignored and slowly slides into the abyss.

Sean has an abundance of ability, he shown good signs on Young Talent Time in the just over half a dozen episodes it aired for in 2012 and in the two years since he has continued to grow for example I seen video of him playing some good Blues music (Deniliquin should have him in 2015) and also playing some good Jimi Hendrix music too and for those who don’t know who Jimi Hendrix is he is best described as one of the Guitar Gods and that is a very small membership club so if anyone can play his music well then it is a compliment.

There is so many talented musicians like Sean hoping that you will give them just a little bit of their time, an average song is three and a bit minutes long, an average share on social media takes about 20 seconds to complete that’s including writing a description and loading time, an average amount of time it takes to vote on places like ArtistSignal is under 10 seconds to do every hour and half a dozen votes that you give a day could advance a person up a couple of places and plus it will give them a little income which at the end of each month no matter how small can be of help to them, every cent counts in this day and age.

Give the musicians you like a view, give them a share, give them a like and give them words of encouragement, your actions can do so much for them as it does for you, for they give you enjoyment and you give them the energy and the drive to keep going on their quest to make a place in the music world their own, chances are when they make it they will not forget the loyalty and dedication of those who walked the journey with them.

A tip to those trying to get people to take notice that you’ve been published somewhere, don’t share it from where it came from but instead write about it and give the link yourself, I have noticed in YMA stats that people who share it themselves get the attention of their fan base compared to something you share from one page on to theirs, give it a try and see what happens.
